Macmillan Walking Group

Move More with Macmillan Cancer Support

Together with Macmillan Cancer Support we are developing Macmillan Walking Groups across Scotland. These Health Walks are specifically to support those affected by cancer to become more active by walking.

When you’re living with or after cancer, physical activity can help you make a positive change to your life. Doctors used to advise people to rest as much as possible during and after cancer treatment, however we now know that too much rest results in loss of muscle strength and low energy levels. It is for this reason that Paths for All and Macmillan Cancer Support are working in partnership to deliver the Move More project. The aim of the project is to support anyone affected by cancer to become more active by walking.

"It’s good for the spirit and it gives you something to look forward to. I am now walking further than I ever would have imagined and my physical and mental wellbeing has greatly improved.” Fiona joined the Dumfries Macmillan Friendly Walk after receiving intensive lung cancer treatment. Join a Macmillan Walking Group

Macmillan Walks are short, local, sociable walks that provide a supportive, friendly environment to support anyone affected by cancer to become more active. People living with cancer, their friends, family and carers are all welcome to join the groups. Move More also provide individual support to anyone living with or cancer to make small day to day changes and set personal goals to help you to become more active at a pace that is right.
