Physical Activity & Mental Health

PDF Print

Mental health and wellbeing are an essential part of people's quality of life. In the UK, one in six suffers from ongoing mental health problems. People who lead an active lifestyle have a reduced risk of suffering symptoms of clinical depression. Being active may help people with mental illnesses, and improve their physical and mental wellbeing even if there is no change in the status of their mental illness. Regular moderate intensity activity can improve overall wellbeing. Physical activity has also been shown to improve mood, reduce anxiety and enhance people's self-perceptions.
