Dementia Friendly Health Walks

We are supporting our Scottish Health Walk Network to make Health Walks more accessible and inclusive for people living with dementia.

Dementia Friendly Health Walks are safe, welcoming and inclusive

Dementia Friendly Health Walks are led by trained volunteers and aim to be accessible and inclusive for people living with dementia, and carers.

By considering both the role of the Walk Leader and the environment in which Health Walks take place, our training can better inform volunteers to implement positive changes. Project Coordinators can also build local partnerships with relevant organisations to help raise awareness of walking opportunities for people living in the community.

There are currently around 155 Dementia Friendly Health Walks taking place every week across Scotland, to find your nearest Health Walk please use our online map.

Supporting the Scottish Health Walk Network

We are working with the Scottish Health Walk Network to support Project Coordinators and volunteers by providing training and resources to develop more dementia friendly walking opportunities. Open to the whole community, increased accessibility to Health Walks will improve individual overall health and wellbeing and create improved social connections.

If you are a member of the Scottish Health Walk Network, Health Walks can now be registered as Dementia Friendly on our database. To do this, Dementia Friendly Walk Leader training must be attended, walking routes risk assessed and resources implemented.
