Kirkcaldy-based social enterprise project empowers locals to cycle

Greener Kirkcaldy promotes active travel and equips people with the necessary skills and knowledge to cycle more for everyday journeys.

Now a funding boost of over £37,000 from our Smarter Choices, Smarter Places programme means they can expand their current active travel work to engage with people in neighbourhoods of Kirkcaldy with high levels of deprivation. Activities focus on increasing skills, knowledge and confidence to cycle more.

Lang Toun Cycles, based in Kirkcaldy, is a social enterprise project part of Greener Kirkcaldy. Through a range of free group cycles, activities, training and support the community bike shop helps to encourage local people to embrace active lifestyles by making cycling as accessible and affordable as possible. This includes providing confidence and knowledge of local routes and safe cycling.

By reducing car use in favour of cycling for shorter journeys, Lang Toun Cycles aim to reduce carbon emissions and encourage physical, mental and social well-being.
