Glasgow's asylum seeker and refugee community benefit from walking with purpose

Combining physical activity and networking, the Walks for Purpose project provides a safe and supportive space for participants to meet others in their community and to learn more about the city and the support available to them.

Funded by our Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Open Fund, Glasgow-based charity Central & West Integration Network (CWIN) supports asylum seekers, refugees, migrant workers and black and minority ethnic communities through their Walks for Purpose project. The project aims to combine physical activity with a supportive space for participants to meet others and expand their knowledge of the city and the support available to them. The walks show participants how they can travel to and access services and opportunities such as libraries, museums, charity shops, cultural shops, and other community groups and charities using a combination of walking and public transport, that they will then be able to revisit on their own. The walks can provide physical and mental health benefits and aim to help the community gain an enhanced quality of life.
