Volunteer Walk Leaders

Overview: A one day course that provides practical advice and training on how to lead a health walk safely and effectively

Date:  This course is held regularly around Scotland and will usually be organised by local walking for health schemes. Have a look at our events page to see what's coming up.

Location:  This course is held at venues around Scotland.

Cost:  To organise a course will cost £500 per course – each course can accommodate up to 20 delegates (this does not include catering & venue hire). A grant maybe available to cover the cost of training, contact PfA for more information.
Volunteers can attend an organised course free of charge so long as they are volunteering on behalf of a recognised PfA walking for health project. See our events page for full details of all courses coming up or you can email your name, address and the type of course you are interested in to training@pathsforall.org.uk .

Who is the course aimed at? Primarily at volunteers who are leading health walks for the general public as part of an existing organisation or as part of a specific walking for health project.  Please visit our find a health walk section of the website for walking for health groups in our network.

What will I learn? By the end of the training day, participants will be able to:
  • Outline the main benefits to be gained from becoming more active.
  • Recognise the main barriers faced by people in participating in a programme of regular walking.
  • Explain the current recommended amount and type of physical activity to benefit health.
  • Understand the stages of a health walk and describe the main issues and considerations involved in organising and leading a health walk.
  • Outline the roles and responsibilities of a Walk Leader to safely accommodate participants.

Walk_Moray_Volunteer_DayHow do I book? Before booking on this course you should be part of a new or existing Walking for Health scheme. Visit our 'find a health walk' page to find local walking projects in your area. To book on, in the first instance please speak with your local Walking for Health scheme coordinator who will be happy to discuss your involvement in the local walking project.

For more information - If you are a scheme coordinator or someone looking to set up a walking group as part of an existing organisation or new project please contact PfA to find out more about offering this course to your volunteers.
