Step Count Challenge

Our walking challenge for Scottish workplaces. The aim is simple - walk more and feel the difference.

A short walk goes a long way. Get your workplace moving more by taking part in the Step Count Challenge.

We run two challenges a year; an eight-week spring challenge and a four-week autumn challenge. Or, you can run your own bespoke challenge for your workplace. Contact us to find out more.

How does the challenge work?

You enter the challenge as a team of five people. Choose a team captain, pick a team name and register via our Step Count Challenge website. The challenge costs £30 per team and you can enter an individual team or multiple teams from your workplace.

You get a user account where you can record your steps, message your team and track progress against other Scottish workplaces on our leaderboards. During the challenge, we’ll set goals and provide regular updates and motivation to keep you and your team walking.

We’ll also have lots of competitions and prizes throughout the challenge.

What are the benefits?

We love walking. It's good for you, good for business, and good for the environment.

We should all aim to be active for two and a half hours each week and walking at a moderate pace is ideal. You can break this into chunks of 10 minutes, so it's easy to fit into a busy day. And there are lots of benefits. Active people live longer and happier lives.

A brisk 30 minute walk on five days of the week can reduce the risk of:

  • heart attack and stroke by 20 - 30%
  • type 2 diabetes by 30 - 40%
  • hip fractures by 36 - 68%
  • bowel cancer by 30%
  • breast cancer by 20%
  • depression by 30%

It's good for business too, a physically active workforce takes 27% fewer sick days.
