Workplace Pedometer

After 8 weeks of walking, strolling, ambling and rambling we have collectively taken an incredible 1,951,801,450 steps. That's 975,895 miles! Individually, we've averaged more than 200 miles each. Together, we have walked the circumference of the earth 39 times, spacewalked to the moon and back twice, walked the West Highland Way nearly 9,750 times. What an achievement.

Step Count Champion

I'm pleased to say we had hundreds of entries for Step Count Champion and there were some great nominations. Many focussed on personal achievements of team mates whilst others recognised the contribution of team captains in motivating their team over the past 2 months. However, there can only be one, and we can announce that the Step Count Champion for 2012 is (insert overlong reality TV pause!) Stephen Morrison from the Job Centre Plus in Glasgow.

Stephen Morrison

Stephen was nominated by several colleagues at the Job Centre Plus for his role in coordinating and encouraging teams from across the Glasgow area to take part in the challenge. It seems Stephen has been something of an inspiration to his colleagues. Having taken part in the Step Count Challenge last year, Stephen was motivated to get more active and as a result lost more than 12 stone. He has become a real champion of walking and actively shares his enthusiasm at every opportunity and has also spread the word by promoting the challenge and his love of walking in local press and the national government staff magazine. His colleague said of Stephen, "his regular updates, funny communications and passion for walking inspire us all." What more could we ask for in our Step Count Champion? Well done Stephen, a bag of goodies is on its way to you.

Our two runners up were Sally McCallum from Carnegie Library's Team Walkapedia in Dunfermline and Susan Connelly from Glasgow City Council's Team Out and Mobile in Glasgow Walking (OMG Walking). Both will receive a £25 Schuh voucher.
