A graded aggregate from certified sources, typically crushed stone, crushed slag, crushed concrete or well-burnt non-plastic shale and sand and gravels, used as granular sub base. Its correct name is ‘DTp Type 2 granular sub base’ as defined by the Department of Transport Specification for Highway Works, Clause 804. It is a lot smaller graded aggregate than Type 1 granular sub base with less solid stone particles (lumps) and more fines. It can be produced as sand / gravel mix provided it meets aggregate grading standards.
