Great Glen House, Leachkin Road, Inverness
Great Glen House is clearly sign-posted on the main road and is the Inverness Headquarters of Scottish Natural Heritage. There is ample parking which is first left after entering and also disabled parking to the right just in front of the Great Glen House.
Paths for All promotes the use of sustainable transport wherever possible. If it is necessary for you to use a car, please consider sharing if this is a feasible option. We would also encourage all visitors to enjoy the grounds at Great Glen House and fit a walk into their day.

On foot from Inverness town centre (approximately 2 miles)
From railway station, cross road (Academy Street), go down Union Street opposite and continue in that direction until you reach the river. At riverside, go left (upstream) until you reach Inverness Castle (up on hill to your left). The Castle is the starting point for the Great Glen Way which this route follows. Follow riverside route upstream along Ness Bank, then Ladies Walk and cross River Ness via the Ness Islands. On North shore of the river go left along Bught Road, following round to the right to meet canal at Tomnahurich Swing Bridge. Crossing Tomnahurich Bridge diagonally taken the left (west bank) canal towpath and head northwards i.e. with the bridge behind you. Continue along canal towpath until Great Glen Way is sign-posted to left leading towards and through a small area of housing (Balphadrig). Great Glen Walk path emerges from housing and heads due west uphill and Great Glen House should be visible facing you from up the hill. Enter Great Glen House grounds directly from Great Glen Way route.
By bicycle
Cycling to Inverness office from City Centre (railway station)
From Railway station, cross road (Academy Street) and head for the riverside.
At riverside, go left (upstream) until you reach Inverness Castle. Follow riverside south (upstream) along Ness Bank and cross River Ness via suspension bridge opposite Eden Court theatre. Turn left (upstream) along Ness Walk, becoming Bught Road, following round to right to meet canal at Tomnahurich Swing Bridge. Crossing Tomnahurich Bridge diagonally, take the left (west bank) canal towpath and head northwards (ie with the bridge behind you). Continue along canal towpath until you reach road left to Charleston Academy (signposted Kinmylies). Take this road past school, through subway under main road and head up hill along Kinmylies Road to T junction at top. Turn left along Leachkin Road, past New Craigs Hospital and left into Great Glen House.

Train

Bus
The bus journey takes approximately 20 minutes from Inverness town centre and the buses leave every 15 minutes. Buses Nos. 1 and 2 leave from Union Street which is a 1 minute walk from the train station and 3 minutes from the bus station. From the bus station (walk down Margaret Street, turn left onto Academy Street, then take 2nd right onto Union Street. From the train station leave via the front exit to the pedestrian lights on the left, cross over and Union Street is opposite.
Taxis
A taxi from the town centre will take approximately 20 minutes to reach Great Glen House. There are several taxi ranks in the town centre at the bus station and train station. Alternatively, phone Inverness Highland Taxis on 01463 222222.

From the North [A9] to Great Glen House (avoiding city centre)
- From north, cross Kessock Bridge and then…
- At Longman Roundabout (the first roundabout after the Kessock Bridge) take the 3rd exit onto Longman Road - B9168
- Follow signs for A82 – You will see Tiso, Wickes and B & Q on your right
- At Harbour Road Roundabout carry straight on (2nd exit) on Longman Road - A82 (signposted Fort William, Town Centre)
- At Rose Street Roundabout carry straight on (2nd exit) on Longman Road - A82 (signposted Dingwall, Ullapool)
- At Shore Street Roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A82 (signposted Beauly, Dingwall, Fort William)
- Cross Friars Bridge
- At Telford Street Roundabout take the 4th exit onto Telford Street - A862 (signposted Beauly, Dingwall) - you will see Lidl and Currys on your left
- At the next roundabout go straight on (2nd exit) onto Clachnaharry Road - A862 (signposted Beauly, Dingwall)
- Turn left onto King Brude Road (signposted Fort William A82, Kinmylies, Leachkin) – up steep hill
- At traffic signals turn right onto Leachkin Road (signposted Leachkin) up steep hill, go straight on at roundabout
- Continue past New Craigs Hospital (on left) and turn left into Great Glen House
From the East (A96) to Great Glen House [avoiding city centre]
- From A96, onto Raigmore roundabout and then…
- At Raigmore roundabout take the 3rd exit, then merge onto the A9 (signposted Fort William, Ullapool, Wick) entering Inverness
- At Longman Roundabout (just before the Kessock Bridge) take the 1st exit, turning left onto Longman Road - B9168 – slip road
- Follow signs for A82 – You will see Tiso, Wickes and B & Q on your right
- At Harbour Road Roundabout carry straight on (2nd exit) on Longman Road - A82 (signposted Fort William, Town Centre)

From the South (A9) [avoiding city centre]
- From A9 northbound, go past main roundabouts signposted for Inverness, continue to roundabout just before Kessock Bridge (Do not go over bridge!) and turn left onto slip road
- Follow signs for A82 – You will see Tiso, Wickes and B & Q on your right
- At Harbour Road Roundabout carry straight on (2nd exit) on Longman Road - A82 (signposted Fort William, Town Centre)
- At Rose Street Roundabout carry straight on (2nd exit) on Longman Road - A82 (signposted Dingwall, Ullapool)
- At Shore Street Roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A82 (signposted Beauly, Dingwall, Fort William)

- Turn left onto unclassified road signposted Kilvean Cemetery and Crematorium
- Take left hand fork and go up hill past hospital buildings and new housing estate (Balmacaan)
- Go straight over roundabout to Leachkin Road
- Continue along Leachkin Road for a short distance and turn right into Great Glen House
